This illustration was commissioned by Sony for a number of print ads used in the U.K. to promote the Launch of the PSP and the game, Wipeout Pure as one of the launch titles. It was created by Jon Burgerman. It is a poster and the sender is Sony's PSP while the audience is Playstation enthusiasts, gamers, possibly people who consider themselves part of the urban scene, and potential customers. It was created digitally using a vector program. The game is also digitally produced with similar aesthetics so using the same medium creates congruity between the poster and the game and just makes sense. The medium and technique both influence the message. The illustrator is using flat shapes and layered objects to create an illusion of space and solidifies it with diagonal lines. The single vanishing point is quickly noticeable and creates a focal point at for the dominant portion of the illustration. The technique narrows the audience making the "enticement" actually entice some, but not all people to want in on the PSP and Wipeout Pure experience. The medium creates a perceived experience with this product that is not realistic or serious, but fun, exciting, digital and interactive. I imagine that the sender wands to create a snapshot into the world of this product and game. The characters and spaceship are looking at the viewer and waiting for his arrival. The propose of this illustration is enticement. The Audience should be expecting to understand what the will be able to experience and the illustrator has been given the chance to illustrate the course he made. The sender may not have had all of it's needs met, but as for the purpose of the illustration, I would say that it has been met. | | |
